Wooden Clutch Care: Cleaning, Storage & Monsoon Protection

A handcrafted wooden clutch is more rigid than a fabric bag, but the surface still benefits from careful handling. Moisture, perfume, rough storage and pressure can affect wood, hardware and decorative finishes over time.

After every use

Empty the clutch before storing it. Wipe the exterior gently with a clean, soft, dry cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. If the product has fabric, resin, printed or embellished areas, avoid rubbing those surfaces aggressively.

Keep water and humidity under control

Do not soak or wash a wooden clutch. If the surface becomes slightly damp, wipe it dry and allow it to air naturally away from direct heat. During humid or monsoon weather, store the clutch in a dry cupboard with airflow rather than sealing a damp item inside plastic.

Avoid perfume and chemicals

Apply perfume, hairspray, sanitiser and makeup before handling the bag. Direct chemical contact can affect hardware, printed finishes, fabric or decorative surfaces. Do not use household cleaners unless the exact product care instructions specifically allow them.

Store it without pressure

• Keep the clutch in a dust bag or soft cotton cover where possible.
• Do not stack heavy objects on top of a structured clutch.
• Keep metal chains or detachable straps wrapped separately so they do not scratch the surface.
• Avoid prolonged direct sunlight, which can affect colour and finishes.

For long-term storage

Check the clutch occasionally rather than leaving it untouched for months. Make sure it is dry, the closure is not under strain and no metal part is resting against a delicate surface.
